Nowadays, schools are being forced to take on extra staff to teach children how to use a knife and fork.Because there are many kids eat only with their fingers. What's more, many teachers say that pupils as old as 12 lack even basic table manners. It's so incredible! So they think teach table manners is just as important as encouraging healthy eating and making sure children get proper exercise.
According to the survey, these phenomena also happen to the adult.Because these basic manners are often been forgotten, or are conveniently overlooked.
This article will teach you how to use fork and knife properly and get a good table manners.
For example,if you are are dining with the friends or trying to impress a date now, before you pick up any silverware, unfold the napkin and put it in your lap.

Your host or waiter has set the table with the silverware you may need from the outside in. Use the fork on your farthest left and the knife at the far right. Move in with each new food.

To cut your food, hold your fork tines pointing down in your left hand. Your index finger pushes down on the fork. Hold the knife, blade down, in your right hand. Your index finger pushes down on the knife. Note that you are controlling the flatware with your thumb and forefinger. You are not using your fists.
Then set your knife down on the plate. Switch the fork, tines down, with food on it to your right hand. With the right hand, lift the food to your mouth.

The fork and spoon are the only things that should go into the mouth. Never lick the knife or eat off it. If using a knife and fork together, always keep the tines of the fork pointing downwards and push the food on to the fork. It may be necessary to use mashed potato to make peas stick to the fork but it is incorrect to turn the fork over and scoop.

It is not correct to hold your knife like a pen. The handle lies in the palm of the hand and is secured by the thumb on the side and the index finger on top of the handle. It is permissible in a restaurant to ask for a steak knife, if the meat is tough, but rude to ask for anything extra in a private house.

When finished, the knife and fork (with tines facing upwards) or spoon etc, are placed on the plate in a six-thirty position.

Answering phone calls, texting, or even repeatedly glancing at the screen in a social situation, is never acceptable. Mobiles should be put away at the dining table (whether at home or eating out) and calls should only be taken, away from the table, in exceptional circumstances.

The excellent table manners are always flexible and pragmatic. If someone does something wrong, then never criticise, comment or draw attention to it,try to be accommodating.

In short, the opportunity to monitor and be exposed to good table manners is being lost. But constant practice will make manners easier to remember so that they come naturally when it really matters.
