Christmas Day

Christmas Day, on December 25, is one of the most festive Christian holidays in many countries around the world. Many homes have Christmas trees and other festival decorations in the weeks leading to Christmas Day. Festive activities include exchanging presents, singing Christmas songs, going to parties, and sending cards.

It's a special time when children get presents from family, friends and Santa Claus, or Father Christmas. Christmas cards are also given or sent out prior to Christmas Day. Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the son of God. His birth date is unknown because there is little information about his early life. There is disagreement among scholars on when Jesus was born. Christians celebrate Jesus’ birthday on December 25. 
Christmas is still relatively new here in China only really celebrated within the last 10 years. In fact, there was a time when you couldn't display a sign which read Merry Christmas because of the religious meanings, but now it seems Christmas is everywhere.
Christmas Eve, which is annually on December 24, is the day before Christmas Day. Since Christmas Eve is not an official holiday, most people have to work. However, many workplaces hold celebrations, so there is a celebratory air to the day. Many people decorate their homes with decorations. The centerpiece of the decorations is often a Christmas tree decorated with party decoration/props such as flower lei, pendants, ornaments and so on. Outdoor light sculptures are also becoming increasingly popular. In the evening, many families, particularly those with children, will hang up stockings on the fireplace or the end of their bed. Children hope that Santa Claus will enter their home via the chimney and fill their stocking with gifts. 
Santa Claus is someone who will remain in the hearts of children forever. He is the make-believe person who brings toys and other gifts to children at Christmas.To grown-ups, he is a special symbol of goodwill and selfless giving.
